Siobhan Benson is the founder of CutLoose BK, a Brooklyn hairstylist, haircut specialist, and DJ with more than 25 years of experience creating fashion-inspired, wearable hair. After studying fashion, she built an international editorial career, traveling to London, Milan, and Paris for Fashion Week while working on shows for Chanel, Kenzo, Simone Rocha, Opening Ceremony, and other leading designers.

Known for precision haircuts, razor cuts, modern shags, chic bobs, and customized styles, Siobhan combines technical expertise with an editorial eye to create effortless hair that reflects each client's personality and lifestyle. Whether you're looking for a bold transformation or a haircut that grows out beautifully, her goal is always timeless, individualized results.

Inspired by late-'70s glamour, early-'80s disco, old-school downtown New York, Paradise Garage, and '90s rave culture, Siobhan has built CutLoose BK as more than a salon—it's a creative space where fashion, music, art, and community come together. When she's not behind the chair, she's DJing around New York City and continuing to draw inspiration from the city's ever-evolving creative scene.

Hailing from sunny Miami Beach, Sean Flynn has been a Brooklyn resident and working as a hair stylist in New York City since 2006. COLORIST/STYLIST
@kate_dolinar_hair

Originally from just outside Cleveland, Kate Dolinar has spent the last 20+ years happily calling NYC home.

Off the clock, she’s personal assistant to her Brussels Griffon, Igor. Kate refers to herself as a Gen X-er, recovering goth kid, and unapologetically nostalgic. She has a soft spot for films from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, especially if they’re set in New York City. If I’m not watching an old movie, there’s a good chance I’m down a true crime YouTube rabbit hole or listening to a podcast.

Kate specializes in low-maintenance haircuts and color designed to grow out well, require less daily styling, and hold up in real life. Most of her clients come to Kate because their hair feels like work. Whether it’s a haircut that doesn’t fall right without styling, or color that fades, shifts, or requires constant upkeep. Her focus is on creating hair that’s easier to live with: soft, natural, and built for longevity.

Her ideal client isn’t just someone who needs a haircut—it’s someone who’s looking to find their hairstylist. She loves building long-term relationships with people who value collaboration, trust the process, and enjoy a good conversation along the way.

MEL

COLORIST/STYLIST
@melakamamintosh

Meow meow! Mel is a Native Hawaiian & Chinese hairstylist and makeup artist originally from ʻAiea, Hawaiʻi, with 20 years in the beauty industry. Her chair is equal parts hair studio and therapy-adjacent comedy club.

She specializes in curly and textured haircuts and color, with a particular love for dry cutting and creating custom looks that fit each client’s lifestyle, goals, and reality. While curls and texture are her specialty, all hair types are welcome.

Known for thorough consultations, Mel takes the time to understand what clients want, what they’ve experienced before, and what will actually work at home. She believes in education over gatekeeping, so clients leave loving their hair and knowing how to care for it themselves.

Her career spans cosmetics, editorial, bridal, fashion, 11 seasons of NYFW, and international weddings and events. A graduate of the Aveda Institute in Denver, she has owned and managed salons in Denver, Hawaii and Brooklyn NY.

Whether it’s a wedding, photoshoot, red carpet, or simply a Tuesday, Mel is there to be the cherry on top of everyone’s hard-work sundae.

UNIVERSE

COLORIST/STYLIST
@universewalkerismyname

Universe Walker’s relationship with hair started at 15, sweeping salon floors, assisting at hair shows, and apprenticing at her first salon. At 16, rock ’n’ roll intervened, and the underground scenes of San Francisco, Hollywood, and New York became a different kind of education. She continued doing hair DIY throughout those years, cutting and coloring hair for friends, bands, and the communities around her. She eventually found her way back to the salon, completing two intensive apprenticeships and building a career shaped equally by technical training, DIY culture, music, and a lifelong instinct to do things a little differently.

Universe specializes in dry cutting, natural texture, precision and razor cutting, working with everything from curls and waves to straight hair. She’s especially drawn to shags, mullets, bobs, bangs, and cuts with strong shape and movement. Her approach combines the structure of precision cutting with the freedom of razor work and the intuitiveness of working on the hair dry, responding to what the hair naturally wants to do.

Universe also loves bold, creative color used intentionally, from pops and panels to blocks and unexpected placement that complement the cut and texture.

After years of advanced education, Universe developed her own approach, Juxtaposed Cutting, bringing together precision, razor, dry, and curly cutting techniques. She now travels nationally as an independent hair educator, teaching stylists to work intuitively across textures and create hair that feels individual, wearable, and alive.

For Universe, the chair is about more than hair. She creates an inclusive, collaborative space where clients can show up as themselves and leave with hair that feels unmistakably like them.

MATTY

Portrait introducuing Matty Morris one of CutLoose's talented colorists

Matty is a Brooklyn-based colorist at Cutloose whose work is shaped by the punk DIY spirit of New Orleans and the fashion and music scenes of downtown New York City. Specializing in polished, chic, and effortlessly sexy transformations, he creates hair that feels lived in, expressive, and distinctly personal. Whether it’s a subtle shift or a complete reinvention, my goal is for every guest to leave feeling more confident, more seen, and more like themselves.

His approach to hair is all about collaboration, individuality, and creating something that feels true to you. Matty sees color as a way to enhance what already makes you unique, not cover it up. Every appointment starts with getting to know you, your style, and how you want to feel when you walk out of the salon.

A lot of his inspiration comes from fashion, music, and underground culture, but he’s not interested in chasing trends. Whether we’re creating soft dimension, a bold blonde, or a complete transformation, Matty strives for your hair to feel effortless, personal, and like the best version of you. His goal is for you to leave feeling confident, inspired, and excited about your hair, with color that grows out beautifully and fits your lifestyle.
